Baklouti Green Chili Oil

From the Barbary Coast of North Africa, this Tunisia Baklouti pepper is rare and unique to this region.  This is the only example of this fruity and spicy green chili olive oil in the world.  Baklouti chili olive oil is made by combining one pound of organic EVOO with 1.6 pounds of fresh whole green Baklouti chilies. Baklouti adds a new and surprising dimension to salsas of all stripes. Drizzle on pizza & taco salads or add to soups & stews for a zip of flavor. This is truly a unique artisan product that has hundreds of applications. Be careful, it's hot. Pair well with  our balsamic. 

Pairs splendidly with Dark Chocolate, Red Apple, Fig, Espresso, Sicilian Lemon, and Black Currant Balsamic Vinegars. Mix with Eureka Lemon Olive Oil to tame down the intense flavor and spice, or blend with Harissa or Chipotle Olive Oils to broaden the bouquet of flavors and boost the heat!

Baklouti Chili-Cheddar Cheese Cornbread

2 cups whole wheat flour, 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal, 2 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 1/2 cups whole milk, 2 large eggs, lightly beaten, 1/2 cup Loide' Baklouti Olive Oil, 8 ounces sharp grated cheddar cheese, 2 ounces reserved, 1/3 cup scallions+ 2 tablespoons reserved, 1 small seeded finely diced fresh Anaheim pepper.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease a 9 by 9 inch baking pan with Loide' Baklouti Olive Oil.  Combine the flour, cornmeal, honey, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.In a separate bowl, combine the milk, eggs, and Loide' Baklouti Olive Oil.  With a wooden spoon, stir the wet ingredients into the dry.  Mix in the grated cheddar cheese, scallions, and Anaheim pepper. our the batter into the prepared pan, smooth the top, and sprinke with the reserved grated cheddar cheese and extra scallions.  Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.  Cool and cut into large squares.  Serve warm or at room temperature.
